Mission Appeal at St Joseph's Catholic Church This Weekend
Mission Appeal
This weekend, September 18th and 19th, at all masses, Rev Raju Pilla will be speaking about the works and the needs of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum in India. Trivandrum has about 270,000 Catholics. 90% of the people are traditional fishermen who depend on fishing for their livelihood, and 10% are farm workers who are recent converts from low caste Hindus. Unemployment and poverty are most rampant in this community. The Archdiocese depends on outside assistance to support its clergy, seminarians, catechists and to continue its developmental programs. However, during this pandemic lockdown, the situation is very pitiful as the fishermen are restricted from fishing, which is their livelihood. With income halted from fishing, people are struggling to survive. Recent Cyclone “Tauktae”, that hit our coastal villages in May, destroyed several hundreds of homes. There is so much poverty. We are looking for some Emergency food assistance.
Won’t you be as generous as you can, donations can be placed in the box at the back of church marked Mission Appeal . Your sacrifice for the Missions is deeply appreciated.
